There are a number of beautiful places that you should visit on your tour. There are many different beautiful places in the South of France. Each has its own charm and is worth a stop on your tour for very different reasons.

In 1 week you can do an express round trip from the Cote d'Azur to the hinterland in the Drôme Provençale. However, we would recommend visiting fewer places and taking more time.

Every region in the South of France has a lot to offer. And the charm of the region often lies in the quiet moments. A café in a sleepy village, a stroll through a weekly market, getting to know local producers, hiking in the mountains or on the beach, visiting old monuments and enchanted towns...

All of this only really unfolds its charm if you take your time.

Round trip in southern France without a car?

To discover the hidden places in Provence you need a vehicle. Whether you choose a car, motorbike, camper van or even a bike, it's up to you. Each of these options has its own charm.

Public transport is not very well developed. Transportation methods such as Uber are also not widely available, especially in rural areas.

You can arrive in Provence via various airports. By plane, you either land in Marseille or Nimes in the west of the region. Or you land in Nice in the east, next to Italy. Or you can come to Provence by car from the north on the A7, the Autoroute du Soleil (the motorway of the sun) via Avignon.

Within the urban regions there are metro, bus, etc. For example, within the city centers of Marseille, Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence. Cities such as Avignon, Nimes and Aix-en-Provence are partly easy to explore on foot. Electric scooters and bicycles are also available. There are of course bus connections in Provence too. However, connections are not always very frequent. The same applies to train connections. Always check the departure times beforehand.

Via the Toulerenc Valley you will reach Malaucene. There are many restaurants and cafes here for an aperitif or dinner. If you haven't had enough of great views, you can drive to the top of Mont Ventoux from here and in the evening see the thousands of glowing lights of Avignon in the distance.

This day trip is beautiful at any time of year. However, to see the lavender you should come between mid-June and mid-July at the latest. Bear in mind that it is always about 10 degrees cooler on Mont Ventoux than at lower altitudes. In summer this is a welcome refreshment. But a suitably warm jacket will come in handy up there at any time of year!
